Parks and Recreation

United States is home to 60 protected areas designated as National Parks, including 14 UNESCO World Heritage Sites, managed by National Park Services (NPS). Creation of the first one, Yellowstone National Park dates back to 1872 by President Ulysses Grant, followed by an expansion of the program to protect and maintain the parks. As of now, 28 states have one or more national parks. Under the purview of the state governments, there are more than 10,000 state parks that are managed very similarly to national parks.

In our coverage, we explore the flora and fauna along with historical and environmental significance of a diverse set of national and state parks.

Hawaii Volcanoes Hawaii Volcanoes National Park, HI Islands and Territories One of the UNESCO World Heritage Sites, covering over 500 sq. miles of land covered with rock formations and fresh lava flow, Hawaii Volcanoes National Park is a heaven for Geologists.
Virgin Islands Virgin Islands National Park Islands and Territories Sunbathing in pristine white sand beaches, tapping foot with reggae rhythms while sipping on that dark rum, and snorkeling in the ‘virgin’ coves.
Haleakala Haleakala National Park, HI Islands and Territories Haleakala is a massive ‘Shield’ volcano taking up more than 75% of the area of Maui. It is formed by lava flows from the ocean floor that started merely 2 million years ago.
New England Fall Kancamagus State Park, NH North East Follow the Swift river running along the Kancamagus Highway in fall for an adventure of a lifetime. The main attractions and vantage points are mostly along the river.
