Brief History
Historically this region has been in the crux of political tension, that arguably extends even now. Before 1860’s, the southern states where slavery was legal, refused to join the Union. Under President Lincoln, the legendary yet bloody civil war broke out resulting in the confederate south conceding to unite with the Union which is now in the shape of the United States of America. The states in this region were the original set of states along with areas bought as part of Louisiana Purchase, before Texas and California were added in. Due to the historic influence of Spanish, French and English, and the native Indians, this region displays a wide range of cultures including cuisines.
